About Protective Behaviours

PBs is a practical and down to earth approach to personal safety.

It is a process that encourages self-empowerment and brings with it the skills to avoid becoming victimised.

This is achieved by helping people recognise and trust their intuitive feelings (Early Warning Signs) and to develop strategies for self-protection.

The Protective Behaviours process encourages an adventurous approach to life that satisfies the need for fun and excitement without violence and fear.

There are Two Themes and Seven Strategies in the Protective Behaviours process which help put these ideas into practice.

Theme One

We all have the right to feel safe all the time

Theme Two

There is nothing so awful we can’t talk about it with someone

Looking at the Two Themes and Seven Strategies, participants will:

* Consider the effects of ‘Unwritten Rules’ that condition our thinking and behaviour

* Consider the inter-relationship of ‘Thoughts, Feelings and Behaviour’

* Clarify the relationship between Rights and Responsibilities

* Explore what ‘Feeling Safe’ is and how to trust intuitive feelings

* Develop understanding of how to build, use and maintain Support Networks

* Consider risk-taking and ‘Risking on Purpose’
